The Soul Of Banners
This project is related to “The Soul of Seoul”
In December 2024, former president Yoon Suk Yeol declared a short-lived martial law, and many Koreans, especially those who experienced the 1980s conflict and dictatorship, were furious and demonstrated until his imprisonment the following year. I found it interesting, especially when Koreans protested in front of statues. The Conservatives were in front of the statue of the nationalist hero who protects the country, and the Liberals were in front of the statue of a mythical creature who protects its people from the crooked government. The flags shown are their symbols of independence since they were freed from the colonial country, Japan. It’s a natural part of the Korean culture to express political beliefs openly.
